Yogi New Year: Intention, Numerology, and a Ritual to Start the Cycle

The calendar is not a magic wand, but it is a symbolic threshold .
A moment to pause, look back on what we've experienced, and gently choose how we want to move our energy from now on.

In yoga, these changes are experienced as a new cycle of awareness : an opportunity to renew our commitment to our well-being, return to the body, and make space for what we do want to cultivate.

Numerology of the change of cycle: from 9 to 1

In Pythagorean numerology, a tradition that studies the vibration of numbers since ancient Greece, each year has a particular energy. This is obtained by adding its digits together until they are reduced to a single number.

2025 → 2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9
2026 → 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1

Therefore, 2025 is a Year 9 : the year of closure, cleansing, and letting go of what has served its purpose. A time for organizing, integrating, and making space.

And 2026 will be a Year 1 : the beginning of the new numerological cycle. The blank page. The moment that says: this starts here .

In a Year 1, the energy invites us to:

  • Breaking new ground and trying something different.
  • To give shape to ideas you've been feeling for a long time.
  • Make decisions from your authenticity (yes, even from your weirdness).
  • Grow what truly moves and excites you.

A glimpse from the Mayan calendar

In the Mayan calendar, beginnings are linked to the Seed energy (Kan) : the power that dwells in something small, almost invisible, and that with care, presence and constancy can expand.

The Seed reminds us of something simple and powerful:
New cycles don't start out huge... they start out present.

From intention to practice with Namastecita

Yoga is a beautiful way to accompany these beginnings . It moves energy, clears the mind, and helps us embody the purpose we want to cultivate.

And as we always say at Namastecita, the mat where you practice also supports that purpose:the design that calls to you, accompanies you. It is your little daily altar.

A NEW CYCLE FROM MOVEMENT - SUN GREETING RITUAL

The Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) is a sequence created to honor Surya, the solar energy: clarity, vitality, and expansion. Practicing it at the beginning of a new cycle symbolizes awakening the inner light and activating intention through the body.

By synchronizing movement and breathing, it reminds us that each inhalation and each exhalation is a new opportunity to be a little more present.

A small ritual to begin:

  1. Choose your mat (the one that vibrates with your purpose for this year).
  2. Get into a comfortable position and observe your body and your breathing, without trying to change anything.
  3. Take a deep breath and, with your hands on your heart, say aloud the intention you want to express.
  4. Perform 3 to 5 cycles of Sun Salutations, keeping your attention on that intention (if you've never done this sequence before, here's a videofrom the amazing Elena Malova ;). You can also read our article: What are yoga postures and what are their benefits?
  5. Lie down , close your eyes, and place your hands back on your heart. Listen to what your body is telling you .
  6. Let go, relax and surrender to the mat as a gesture of gratitude for everything you've experienced... and what's to come.

We wish you a bountiful and fulfilling 2026...Thank you for joining us on this journey!
