Yoga for the change of season: awaken your energy and cleanse your space

The change of season is not just an adjustment in the weather.
It is a biological adjustment : in the body, in the mood, and in our way of practicing.
In Spain, when the light begins to gain ground, something in us also stirs.

Growth cycles resume and our body, as part of the same ecosystem, responds.

After months of seclusion, the body begins to open naturally. It is a gradual expansion of light, rhythm, and movement.

Yoga, at this time of year, doesn't correct anything. It accompanies.
It helps that rising energy find direction and stability.

Seasonal change: from the feminine pole (yin) to the masculine pole (yang)

In winter, the yin quality predominates. It builds an internal structure that is receptive, colder, denser, and more structural. It is not weakness or passivity. It is containment, preservation, and depth.

In physiological terms, the body tends to conserve energy. Metabolism may slow down slightly, muscles may become more withdrawn due to the cold, and joints may become stiffer. The nervous system favors more introspective states.

In practice, this translates to:

  • Sustained postures.

  • More time on the ground.

  • Slow, deep breathing.

  • Rooting and base work.

When spring begins, yin does not disappear. Yang begins to emerge gradually.
Yang is the masculine pole: expansive, dynamic, ascending, warmer. It represents movement, action, and outward direction.

With longer days, the body receives a clear activation signal. Breathing becomes deeper, circulation more vibrant, and energy more readily available. A sense of urgency arises. A desire to act emerges.

But here's something fundamental that's important:
The energy of the season changes. The internal rhythm of each body does not always change at the same time.

Just because it's spring doesn't mean we "should" bloom.
Just because there is more light doesn't mean we have to be more productive.

The healthy transition between yin and yang is not imposed. It is regulated.

And this is where practice becomes a conscious bridge.

Puente means integrating without forcing:

  • Maintaining winter stability while incorporating mobility.

  • Maintain deep breathing as the movement becomes more fluid.

  • Allow the impulse to appear, without forcing it.

Every body is unique.
Each practice is a temple.

The key here is to allow the yang to emerge supported by the yin base , and the balance lies in recognizing when to hold and when to expand.

Constant listening and self-observation—respiratory, muscular, and emotional—determines how much movement your system needs today. The season guides, but doesn't dictate.

Mindful cleaning: space and mat

Just as the body adjusts its energy, the environment where you practice can also accompany that change: ventilate, tidy up and dedicate a few minutes of presence to clean your mat.

During the winter, it accumulated sweat, friction, and hours of wearing a bra. Cleaning it isn't just about hygiene: it's about renewing the support that regulates your nervous system every time you exercise.

Here's the complete guide on how to properly clean your Namaste mat.

At Namastecita we design mats that accompany these cycles: a solid base to support the winter and sufficient stability to allow the expansion of spring.

Because the practice changes with the season.
And support matters more than we think.

Nature as the real regulator

Finally, I would like to close this beautiful blog post by reminding you that in this transition we don't need elaborate rituals to give new meaning to this change of cycle (although they are very welcome).

What we need is real exposure to the environment.

It's not mysticism, it's biology.

Walking in a natural space, practicing outdoors, observing how plants sprout, how the light changes throughout the day, reminds us that growth is not uniform and that each organism responds to its own wise rhythm.
